Meet the Team
Animal Clinic of Ava was established in 2009 and has hired over a dozen veterinarians, mentored several dozen veterinary students, supported many staff members and their beautiful families, and are proud to be home-grown success stories of the God's grace, hard work and the American dream in a small town!

Senior Veterinarian, Owner
Dr. Mike A. Peters
Dr. Peters is a 2007 graduate of the University of Missouri Veterinary Medical College, with a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science. After two years as an associate with Marshfield Veterinary Clinic, he and his wife opened a practice in her hometown of Ava, where they have been serving Douglas County and the surrounding area ever since. Although he has almost every species on their family farm, Dr. Peters has a passion for horses, particularly the Missouri Foxtrotting Horse.

Director of Operations, Co-owner
Kayla Peters
Kayla began the practice supporting Dr. Peters in reception, payroll, balancing books and such, and now manages operations of the company and growth from behind the scenes using computer remoting, apps, and new technology. She is a pet trainer certified atTop Tier Training Academy in 2017, and enjoys applying her skills to their Malinois dogs at home. Kayla loves homeschooling their young children in the school season and water recreation in the summer-time with her family. Food forests, fur tanning and fishing are areas of interest.

Senior Veterinarian
Dr. Beth Kearns
Dr. Beth is our small animal medicine expert, and has been serving our area's pets since 2015! As a native of Seymour, Missouri, she she loves everything about the beautiful Ozarks we live in. Family, gardening and horseback riding are some of her favorite things. She shares two beautiful children with her husband, Jim, on her family farm. Dr. Beth's compassion and caring for animals is a complimentary strength to her skills and experience. We are truly blessed to have her as a leader in our team!

Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Emma Knickmeyer
Dr. Emma Knickmeyer grew up on a small farm in Cedar Hill, Missouri, with anything from beef cattle to honeybees. Most of her summers growing up were spent preparing for 4-H shows. Showing livestock planted her interest in veterinary medicine, and she completed her Masters of Science in Bovine Reproduction along with her DVM degree. Outside of veterinary medicine, she enjoys working with horses, flyfishing, hiking, and playing her fiddle and banjo. Dr. Knickmeyer has a beautiful family with her husband, Jake, and two children.

Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Tori Porubsky
Dr. Tori Porubsky is a recent graduate of Texas A&M University School of Veterinary Medicine, and practices both large and small animal medicine here at Animal Clinic of Ava. She brings fresh ideas and sharp attention to detail, we are so thankful to have Dr. Porubsky on the team!

Hospital Manager, Senior Veterinary Technician
Cayla Waszczuk, LVT
Cayla is a licensed Veterinary Technician graduating from Crowder College in 2008, and was one of the very first employees, joining ACA in 2010! Today as our Hospital Manager she oversees all our patients admitted to the clinic. Her vast knowledge of both large and companion animals makes her our go-to information specialist; combined with her efficient speed and energy she keeps the practice running smoothly. Cayla enjoys horseback riding and lake days with her four beautiful children.

Accounts Manager
Brittany Ingram
Brittany joined the practice in 2017, becoming lead reception, a surgical and medical veterinary assistant, and is now serving as Accounts Manager and oversees many areas of operations and task management. Brittany loves spending time with her husband and children, Her follow-through and attention to detail is unmatched, making her a perfect fit for our management team!

Large Animal Operations Manager
Levi Hall
Levi is our hometown native of Ava and knows the ins and outs of a cow like the back of his hand! Levi's a graduate of the College of the Ozarks and has cattle and equine experience from a young age. He manages the cattle work in the clinic, and will even come to the farm to pick up and load your sick animal. Levi is multi-talented and makes gorgeous custom leather hats, plays guitar, woodworks, builds and creates anything the practice needs to keep running smoothly. There is only one Levi like him in the whole world and we are so grateful he is a leading member of our team!
